About
Welcome to your headquarters for Houston’s role in world affairs. From the 4th largest city in the United States, not to mention a major contributor in multiple economic sectors, we take a panoramic look at world developments and how they might affect local residents and also how local developments might play out on a larger stage.Though not the capital of Texas, ceding those honors the city of Austin, for all intensive purposes, Houston is still the Lone Star State’s gateway abroad. Designated as the Energy Capitol of the World by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network, Houston plays host to 5 of the 6 major energy corporations, including its role as the global headquarters for ConocoPhillips, and United States headquarters for ShellOil, BP and ExxonMobile. Such a significant impact on how the earth fuels its day to day rotation has lead to Houston’s designation as a “beta world city,” a high honor trailing only alpha world cities such as New York City and London in terms of international significance. Not to mention, Houston’s presence extends beyond realm of earth itself, dubbed Space City, as it boasts NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, the primary “Mission Control” facility for manned flights to infinity and beyond. By any assessment, Houston is a major player in the world as we know it, with influence spanning far past the city limits. Follow along as we celebrate this great city’s contribution to society both at home and across the map.
